Our career course is available for students to complete during the evening. The course is designed as a foundation for those wishing to enter the industry and those with more than just a passing interest in flowers. This intensive programme of study gives you a good grounding in the skills required in the floristry world.  Starting with basic flower purchasing and progressing through the conditioning and life span of flower varieties, to the use of colour and texture and the use of vases and containers. The course will begin with technical instruction and develop into expression of Jane's design philosophy. All materials, products and equipment required by the student are provided throughout the course. By the end of the programme you will have a basic set of containers, a comprehensive portfolio and a self-built, basic Jane Packer floristry manual. The class will remain small with a maximum of twelve candidates to ensure each student is given the utmost guidance and attention. Our evening Career Course is divided into 4 stages.

Career Course Evening Classes

The four stages of our evening courses make up the entire career course but stage one, two and three have been designed as standalone courses. Although some experience is required for stages two and three, the courses can be completed individually. Unfortunately, stage four can only be completed after stages one, two and three.

Stage One - Foundation Floristry

Stage one of our career course focuses on foundation floristry skills, which includes hand tying, vase arrangements and work with floral foam. We will give you a general overview of flower conditioning, how best to care for your blooms. an introduction to colour, working with height and proportion, gift wrapping and the basic cornerstone techniques needed for foundation floristry skills.

Stage Two - Foundation Decorating

Stage two explores foundation decorating floristry, which takes the skills gained in stage one a step further. We look at arrangement construction techniques and mechanics. These skills will equip all students with knowledge of how to create arrangements for weddings funerals and events. You will learn how to create the basic shapes of table arrangements, funeral tributes and event designs and how these basics can be adapted to create a whole lot more. The care of floral products is also taught and we shall show you how to maximize your results working with flowers and foliages. We will concentrate on the use of flower foam and containers introducing you to products available in the industry. Students are also encouraged to join one of our guided tour of London's Covent Garden Flower Market, which is done early morning with Career course students attending the four week career course.

Stage Three - Foundation Bridal

Stage three is dedicated to foundation bridal floristry where we will teach you the basic skills needed to create bridal designs. We will introduce you to floristry equipment needed to produce bridal designs and show you wiring techniques essential in wedding floristry. The care of flowers is also taught showing you how this affects your floral designs. Learn how to create a variety of bridal bouquets, bridesmaid’s bouquets, accessories and buttonholes in Jane's signature style. This course will equip all students with the skills and confidence to tackle simple wedding requests with style.

Stage Four - Interpretation

Stage four gives each student an opportunity to recap, practice their new skills and to design projects on their own. A range of exercises are set which are designed to give students feedback. Students will also be required to produce their own wedding project, where they shall be asked to design a range of items working within a budget and theme.
