The Internationally renowned J A N E  P A C K E R  Flower School now also operates within our New York flower store  on 59th Street, offering a similar range of high quality tuition as its sister schools in London and Tokyo. It’s the perfect location for New Yorkers (and others) to spend time enjoying flowers.

The aim of the school is to share the skills and design philosophy of Jane Packer in a highly creative environment with anyone who has an interest in flowers, whether individuals who simply enjoy flowers in their home, florists who wish to improve their skills or those who may have an ambition to make floristry a career. Small classes will enable our highly skilled tutors to spend the maximum time with each student. Our classes are kept intentionally small (max 6 Students) so that the greatest attention can be given at all times. All materials required will be provided, however we would recommend that you bring a camera (sorry no video cameras). Students will take home their own flower arrangements created in the class. We begin each lesson with tea, coffee and pastries.

Our web site gives an overview of our courses and dates. Unfortunately, we cannot provide a booking service directly from our web page at the moment due to security issues. However you can print out a booking form and submit it by fax, e-mail or mail.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

FUN WITH MOM

This is a class which gives you the opportunity to spend time with that special person in your life. You will be shown how to make glorious arrangements that you will both be able to take home. This two for one offer allows the two of you to enjoy this class together.

CLASSIC DESIGN

This one day class will look at classic floral design and we’ll teach it with Jane Packer style.  Yes to tradition, but no to old fashioned!  A day of Jane’s interpretation on how to use those old favorites.  Whether it’s a traditionally shaped arrangement, container or bloom, we’ll mix them up with the new and fashionable to give the designs cutting edge style.  The day will include two of the basic floristry techniques, hand tying and arranging in floral foam.  This course is perfect for a beginner and creative enough to advance any novice.

CONTEMPORARY DESIGN

This day will be filled with Jane’s most up to date contemporary designs.  Thinking outside of the box, this day will be inspired by current trends in fashions and interiors and we’ll use funky colors, containers and stunning blooms in an unusual way.  Gone is the day of those fuddy duddy arrangements!  We will combine a number of basic skills with some floristry tricks to create some eye-catching designs – a great day out for the trend conscious!

WEDDING WORKSHOP

This one day wedding workshop will give you a small taster of wedding floristry.  One part is dedicated to wiring techniques which leads in to boutonnieres and corsages. The second part is a beautiful bridal bouquet. This will give any budding florist an insight into bridal floristry.

FRUITS AND VEGETABLES
This half day class is dedicated to using fruits and/or vegetables as part of a lush arrangement. Learn to appreciate and work with food in a way you never have before. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to do something contemporary and a bit unusual.

SUPERMARKET SURPRISE
Beat the credit crunch with this fun and innovative day. During this half day class we will show you how to get the most out of your "lack lustre" supermarket bunch! We will advise you on how to create some super designs from a typical bunch. These simple and effective ideas will be designed in a range of containers that are yours to take home.

MARKET AND INDUSTRY DAY
This fun day gives insight in to the professional world of the flower shop. We start out with a guided tour of the New York City Flower Market, you will get a behind-the-scenes look at the blooms and accessories we use on a daily basis. After reconvening at the shop, you will get a lesson on flower conditioning and maintenance. In the afternoon, you will create a contemporary table arrangement.

CAREER COURSE

Our four week career course is designed as a foundation for those wishing to enter the industry and those with more than just a passing interest in flowers. This intensive course will give you a solid training in floristry from the home of the world's leading florist and the famous floristry school which also has established branches worldwide (London, Tokyo and Seoul). Starting with fundamental techniques, flower care, buying, and design, the course progresses to incorporate all areas of contemporary floral design, including specialist decorating and wedding work. The curriculum begins with technical instruction and develops into expression of our design philosophy. All materials, products and equipment required by the student are provided. By the end of the course you will have a basic set of containers, a comprehensive portfolio of design work and a self-built JANE PACKER floristry manual. The class will remain small with a maximum of six students to ensure each candidate is given the most personal guidance and attention.
